We appreciate your consideration of adopting a homeless pet. Pet ownership is a serious responsibility, and a lifelong commitment. The unique thing about our shelter is that we provide information about the obligations involved in owning a pet before you adopt.
Some people wonder why we just don’t hand out cats and dogs to whoever will take them, not knowing or caring where they are going. Past experiences have shown that if we did that, these animals are easily discarded, and would come back to this or another shelter and potentially, along with a litter that was not planned.
We have an obligation to the animal to ensure his new family is prepared to accept him, and we have an obligation to potential adopters to help them find the right pet for their circumstances and lifestyle. However you obtain your new pet it is still going to require your time, cost, and responsibility.
