Planning & Zoning Department

Role & Responsibilities

The Planning Department is responsible for protecting King Williams natural resources and quality of life through developing and recommending growth management strategies and encouraging community growth through sound land use development practices.

This Department is responsible for long-range planning for land use and transportation and for reviewing and updating the County’s Comprehensive Plan, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. The Planning Department is also responsible for processing and reviewing:

  • Land disturbance and zoning permits
  • Plans of development
  • Rezoning
  • Subdivision proposals and erosion and sediment control for the County
  • Conditional use and special exception requests

Planning staff also provides support for matters involving long-range planning and development review policy to the:

  • Board of Supervisors
  • Board of Zoning Appeals
  • Historic Preservation Board
  • Planning Commission
  • Architectural Review Board
