Message from the County Administrator

This update is provided each month to better inform King William County citizens and visitors about County Government. The information serves as a status report for ongoing projects and a preview of different happenings that are, planning stages.

Members of the Board of Supervisors and County Staff will be attending the annual VACo Local Government Day on Thursday, February 1st, at the Richmond Mariott Hotel.

County Government Offices will be closed Monday, February 19th, in observance of the President’s Day holiday. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20th.

The King William EDA Business Roundtable will meet Wednesday, February 28th, at the Parks & Recreation Center on Route 360. The business portion of the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.


The Board of Supervisors will hold two meetings and one FY ’25 Budget Work Session this month. Meetings are held in the County Administration Building Board Room and begin at 6:30 p.m. The tentative agendas are:

February 5th FY ’25 Budget Work Session:

(1) Budget Request Presentations: Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer, Circuit Court Clerk, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Victim Witness, Sheriff’s Office, General Registrar, and Utilities Dept.

February 12th Regular Meeting:

(1) Commerce Park Discussion; (2) Revisions to the Regional Animal Shelter Agreement with King & Queen County; (3) Presentation by Rappahannock Community College President Dr. Shannon L. Kennedy; and (4) County Administrator’s Report.

February 26th Regular Meeting:

(1) Update on Broadband project; (2) VDOT Quarterly Report; (3) Public hearing on updates to the Zoning Ordinance; (4) FY ’25 Budget Presentations: Social Services, Child Services Act (CSA); Regional Animal Shelter; and Community Connection; and (5) County Administrator’s Report.

(All items scheduled for the Board of Supervisors to consider are tentative and subject to change.)

  • Soggy: An Orientation on Flooding Issues & Solutions – Tuesday, February 6th, 5:30 p.m., Colosse Baptist Church (see County Website for details and registration link)
  • Planning Commission - Tuesday, February 6th, 6:30 p.m., Board Room.
  • Social Services Advisory Board – Monday, February 12th, 5:30 p.m., DSS Community Room.
  • BOS Meeting – Monday, February 12th, 6:30 p.m., Board Room.
  • Economic Development Authority - Wednesday, February 14th, 6:30 p.m., Board Room.
  • President’s Day Holiday – Offices Closed – Monday, February 19th
  • King William School Board - Tuesday, February 20th, 6 p.m., Hamilton-Holmes Middle School.
  • West Point School Board - Tuesday, February 20th, 6 p.m., School Board Office.
  • VA 250 Planning Committee - Thursday, February 22nd, 4:30 p.m., Board Room.
  • BOS Meeting – Monday, February 26th, 6:30 p.m., Board Room.
  • West Point Town Council - Monday, February 26th, 6:30 p.m., Town Hall Council Chambers.
  • EDA Business Roundtable Meeting – Wednesday, February 28th, 6:30pm, Parks & Rec Building.
  • MPPDC Meeting – Wednesday, February 28th, 7 p.m., Saluda.


  • Utility projects will continue to be advanced this month including extension of the water line and construction of a new storage tank.
  • A Request for Proposals has been issued Legal Services, for either an in-house attorney or an established law practice or firm.
  • Discussions will continue this month on a new agreement between the County and King William Little League regarding use of fields at King William Recreation Park.
  • Staff will continue to advance the establishment of an Emergency Operations Center at Station1. 
  • Staff will join representatives from West Point and King & Queen this month to discuss the Bay Aging Transit program.
