Message from the County Administrator

This update is provided each month to better inform King William County citizens and visitors about County Government. The information serves as a status report for ongoing projects and a preview of different happenings that are, planning stages.

Early voting for the March 5th Presidential Primary will take place on Saturday, March 2nd, from 8am – 5pm at the Office of the Registrar in the County Administration Building. This is the last opportunity for early voting.

The Presidential Primary Election will be held Tuesday, March 5th, at all voting precincts throughout the County from 6am – 7pm. County Government offices will be open that day.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETINGS

The Board of Supervisors will hold two meetings and two FY ’25 Budget Work Sessions this month. Meetings are held in the County Administration Building Board Room and begin at 6:30pm The tentative agendas are:

March 4th FY ’25 Budget Work Session:

(1) Presentation: Utility Rate Study Report; (2) Budget Request Presentations: Bay Aging/Bay Transit; Mangohick Volunteer Fire Department; West Point Volunteer Fire Department; Walkerton Community Fire Association; Cooperative Extension; Three Rivers Health District; Legal Aid Works; Indian Rivers Humane Society, Pamunkey Regional Library; BOS & Administration; Finance; Revenue Projections; and Discussion of past Unreconciled Funds.

March 6th FY ’25 Joint Budget Work Session:

(1) King William County Public Schools Budget Request.

March 11th Regular Meeting:

(1) Public Hearing on elimination of the Wetlands Board and changes to the ordinance; (2) Presentation on revisions to the Animal Shelter Agreement with King & Queen County; (3) County Administrator’s Report.

March 25th Regular Meeting:

(1) Consideration of Proclamation declaring April, 2024 as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month; (2) Public Hearing on revisions to the Animal Shelter Agreement with King & Queen County; (3) Presentation of the FY ’25 Budget; and (4) County Administrator’s Report.

(All items scheduled for the Board of Supervisors to consider are tentative and subject to change.)

CAPSULE GLANCE OF OTHER ACTIVITIES HAPPENING WITHIN COUNTY GOVERNMENT:

  • Utility projects will continue to be advanced this month including extension of the water line and construction of a new storage tank.
  • The firm of Deal & Lacheney PC will provide legal services for King William County beginning March 1.
  • The state 4pm Burning Law is in effect until April 30th. Visit the Department of Forestry website for details.
